Services The majority of our work consists of completing structural repairs and finishing to aircraft that have suffered impact accidents. We have recovered, repaired, and returned to service aircraft that have had damage due to everything from off airport landings, to shearing a wing off with a snow bank, to 'gear up' landings. We offer complete aircraft recovery and secure indoor or outdoor storage for indefinite periods of damaged aircraft . Insurance companies frequently use this service to preserve evidence and to maintain salvage value for future closed bid resale. TAS is always aware that post accident damage to aircraft is a costly thing, and we strive to secure, transport, and store the aircraft in the best way possible. Many damaged aircraft can be made 'ferryable' in order to get them to our facility for full repairs. This method is preferred for several reasons. While we can disassemble and load an airplane typically in one day, it takes many days to reassemble. In addition to simply bolting the parts together, reassembly requires rigging of all controls, servicing hydraulic systems, rigging landing gear systems. There are many other details, depending on the type of aircraft involved.
Special Services Over the years we have repaired several Cessna 210s that have had wing damage. We discovered that very few shops are willing to work on these cantilever wings. Out of necessity we fabricated a jig and began accumulating detailed data on these wings. As a process of doing numerous inspections on 210s and 210 wings, we have found that the aging of the fleet is causing many of the main spar casting ‘Huck bolt’ pins to become loose. This means that there is slight movement between the castings, the spar cap, and the spar web and the pin holes are becoming elongated. If this is the case, black runs or streamer may be noticed emanating from around the head or tail of the pin. There are a total of thirty of these pins in each wing. We have had special reamers made to clean these holes and allow installation of 1/64" oversized pins with the proper interference fit. We have performed major repairs to quite a few Mooney aircraft over the years and have become very comfortable with making repairs to Mooney wings. The Mooney wing skins are an interesting challenge because, unlike other planes, they extend from the bottom trailing edge all the way around to the top trailing edge. This makes fitting and alignment much more difficult. Proper jigging is extremely critical because removal of any of the skins allows the wing to flex easily. We have jigging fixtures that allow us to do almost any repair to a Mooney wing without separating the wing from the cabin. If the plane can be made ferryable, we can most likely perform the repairs on the plane allowing substantial savings in time and money.
